From the Inbox: Homeschool Book Club (Westchester)

This is just a reminder that if you plan on coming to the
Westcehster-Loyola Village LIbrary Homeschool Book Club, the
meeting is Monday, Nov 3 @ 9:15 AM!

I hope all you parents, tweens and teens have read "The
Giver" by Lois Lowry. I know some of you have and are
looking forward to discussing it.

If you haven't read it yet, it's a quick read and you have a
week in which to do so.

This is also a time to think about what to read next. Bring
your suggestions to next Mondays meeting.

Call or write if you have ANY questions/suggestions.

Hope to see you all there!

Library Systems: Corona Public Library

I've mentioned before (numerous times) that our family is a fan of Library systems. California has some wonderful libraries and I truly encourage homeschooling families to take full advantage of them.

Today I'm focusing on the CORONA PUBLIC LIBRARY. As with any library system you do not have to have a card to go and take advantage of many of their resources. To obtain an Adult Library card you must be 18. Their children's card policy is as follows:

A children’s card is issued to the parent or legal guardian of the child who will use that card. The parent or legal guardian is responsible for all materials borrowed and for any fines or fees owed on cards of children up to the age of 18.

Online you can also access their CHILDREN'S ROOM. http://www.coronapubliclibrary.org/teensat650/index.cfm, they also have a Teen Advisory Council, Poetry Bashes and an Anime/Manga Club. You can also find links for Homework Help as well as Colleges and Jobs.

Want to recycle your Electronic Equipment safely and responsibly? The Library is partnering with Dollar Self Storage to raise money to buy new computers. If you have an old computer, printer, or any other Electronic Equipment you don't use any more, take it to Dollar Self Storage at 1065 E Third Street in Corona. They will recycle the items and write a check to the Library Foundation. The goal is to use these funds to buy up to 20 new workstations for all of our patrons to use.

The Corona Public Library is located at 650 S. Main Street, Corona, California 92882 and the main number is (951) 736-2381.

Never Underestimate the Power of the Library

Homeschooling does not have to be expensive. Let the library be your friend. Many libraries even have textbooks. You can even maximize your time with some systems by placing a hold on the items (some systems allow you to do this for FREE)and then have your library day be one of the days that you go for pickup.

There are even videotape lessons that you can use. I know in earlier years we checked out The Basic Math series (from Los Angeles Public). They had over 30 tapes.

Anyway, I just wanted to share this often overlooked option with you.

Happy Homeschooling!
